The Lowest Depths of Hell

It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Amr said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are four characteristics, whoever has them all is a pure hypocrite, and whoever has one of them has one of the characteristics of hypocrisy, until he gives it up: when he speaks he lies, when he makes a covenant he betrays it, when he makes a promise he breaks it, and when he disputes he resorts to obscene speech.”Narrated by al-Bukhaari (34) and Muslim (58).

Ibn Abi Mulaykah said: I met thirty of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), all of whom feared being hypocrites, and none of them ever said that he had faith equivalent to that of Jibreel and Mikaa’eel.

Hasan Al-Basri used to say (concerning hypocrisy): "No one fears it but a believer and no one feels safe from it but a hypocrite".

Undoubtedly, the hypocrites are in the lowest section of the Hell, and you shall never get any helper for them.

Oh Allah....protect us from Nifaaq al akbar and Nifaaq al Asghaar....and enter us into jannat Al Firdaws Al-Alaa.

Abdullah b. Mas’ûd – Allah be pleased with him – said:

Singing sprouts hypocrisy (nifâq) in the heart as water sprouts greens and herbs.

Ibn Battah, Al-Ibânah Al-Kubrâ Vol.2 p469, and Al-Bayhaqî, Al-Sunan Al-Kubrâ Vol. 52 p231.

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawzîyah – Allah have mercy on him – said in Madârij Al-Sâlikîn, Vol.1 p487:

These are the words of someone who fully understood singing and its effects, for no one regularly sings or listens to song except that his heart falls into nifâq without him realizing. If such a person understood the reality of nifâq and its end he would see it in his own heart. Never do the love of song and the love of Qur`ân come together in a person’s heart except that one expels the other. I and others have witnessed how heavy the Qur`ân feels to singers and song-listeners; how they coil when it is recited and how they get angry with a reciter when he recites too long for them (in prayer etc); and how their hearts do not benefit from what he recites: they are not moved to do anything by it. But when the Qur`ân of Shaytân comes, lâ ilâha illallâh! How they lower their voices and settle down! How their hearts feel at peace and how the crying and emotions start, how moved they are inwardly and outwardly and spend on clothing and perfume and staying up hoping for a long night ahead. If this is not nifâq then it is certainly the way to it and its foundation.

Leave alone those who take their religion to be mere play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world. But proclaim (to them) this (truth): that every soul delivers itself to ruin by its own acts: (Al -An am:70)

jazak Allahu khairan for sharing "anonymous"! SubhanAllah....

Hypocrisy is such as scary thing! Yet many of us tend to feel safe from it.....

jazakomAllahu kheiran for the post reehabo and for anonymous for bringing up such an interesting comment about singing. subhanAllah, your words are too true!

However, I do distinguish 'singing' between singing kuffar/haram songs and singing nasheeds that are about Islam or principles of Islam or whatnot. I think those nasheeds can bring you closer to Allah if they are true nasheeds and as long as the person keeps in mind that the words of the Qu'ran is better than this nasheed and they dont get too caught up in it and leave the Quran-the better of the two.

According to the article there is no distinguish between the kind of singing. This is the way the Sahaba and the Ulmma interpreted it. As for what brings us closer to Allah, then the prophet was closer to Allah than any man alive today and he did not use singing to do so. Since we are not going to reach a higher level by using new methods perhaps we should stick to what he taught us in his sunnah from mannerisms and ibada so we are not lead astray even if it may seem as a good thing. May Allah guide us to his straight path. May allah reward you for your efforts.

JazakAllah kheir for bringing up those interesting points br/sr Anonymous.

I agree that perhaps using nasheeds as a means of reminding one of Allah or trying to get closer to Allah, maybe thats not the best way since our Prophet (SalAllahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) didn't do that, as far as I know. I dont know much.

But, since in general its allowed as we know from the hadith of the prophet Muhammed, that he let two girls sing and only stopped them when they said something untrue, that the Prophet knows the future.

So I dont think its harmful if its used in other ways, since females usually like this kind of stuff, like singing (to their kids or while theyre doing something else at the same time)and its better that they say words of benefit about Islam or good things(i never let the water run, yeah) and not letting it replace other forms of getting closer to Allah such as learning about the deen or reading Qur'an, and other things.

Thats just my opinion. I'm not saying that its necessarily right. Its probably best to consult the scholars on these kind of issues. Not everything can be resolved on common sense.
Allah knows Best.

good point brother. I don;t think she meant it in any negative way.

JazakAllah kheir for bringing it up though. Sometimes we don't think of these things until somebody else brings it to our attention. I know I'm at fault too.

But khayr, thats how we learn from other peoples naseeahs and from experience.

Assalamu Alaykum,

I like this blog because it reminds me of the things i forgot to worry about. Meaning when i think about them, I truly fear Allah and I truly repent to Allah azza wa jal. Sometimes in this life we just get swept away for a while till another rush of emaan pushes us back to the beach, the safe area. The emaan. Haha the sand must taste so good on that beach.
